GoEngineer Employees Charn Posted November 3, 2021 GoEngineer Employees Share Posted November 3, 2021 When did you start using SOLIDWORKS? I started using SOLIDWORKS in 2005 when I started my undergraduate at UCR. We had SOLIDWORKS 2004 (not sure of the SP)
Contributors Ben Modic Posted November 4, 2021 Contributors Share Posted November 4, 2021 2008! We had access to the free version in the Formula SAE club at Ferris State University.
GoEngineer Employees Jared Trotter Posted November 5, 2021 GoEngineer Employees Share Posted November 5, 2021 2008. I was in Design & Manufacturing I at MIT and from the first time I saw it, I thought "THAT'S what I want to do. Literally anything where I can use this software."
Bradley Hakeman
2008 for me. I had been with a company for 2 years, doing all AutoCAD work as a Designer/Document control role. Some of our Mechanical Engineers had SOLIDWORKS and my manager remembered I had "3D experience/training" (Pro-E) so they gave me access to a license.
GoEngineer Employees Charn Posted November 12, 2021 Author GoEngineer Employees Share Posted November 12, 2021 three 2008's in a row...yall never had to experience the massive UI outcry that year lol. i remember when they changed it in the computer labs on campus one day...people were crying, "where'd my commands go?!" but i liked the ribbon style they changed to match like office. GoEngineer Employees Jesse Ortman Posted December 23, 2021 GoEngineer Employees Share Posted December 23, 2021 Solidworks 95 I think. Memory a little sketchy on that. First DEMO I saw and used was the 'boomerang' demo. In fact here it is: 2

Glenn Schroeder
I'm a later comer. I started dabbling with it in late 2008, and have been using it full time, 30+ hours per week, since mid-2009.
James Lewis
It's been a while since I've checked out the community, here. I started out in the 2D world (hand drawings and AutoCAD) before switching to SOLIDWORKS a long time ago. I was "off-grid" for a while because of a job change that meant switching to Solid Edge. I miss my "s" key but I enjoy the freedom of Synchronous mode.

GoEngineer Employees Ken LaVictor Posted January 30, 2023 GoEngineer Employees Share Posted January 30, 2023 Add another vote to the 1998 list. Used it for a few months before changing jobs. And then I REALLY started using it in 2004, when I joined Fisher/Unitech.
Brandon Klar
I started in 2004, really stumbled around and was very frustrated at first coming from 2D (AutoCAD & Mastercam). After I humbled myself and did the built in tutorials, I started to fly. Took a break from the industry until late 2005, and got a job doing sheet metal parts and really got the chance to stretch my legs and learn a lot more about Solidworks. Almost 20 years now! Wow. Andrew Ehlert
1997 using Solidworks 95. Transitioned from (attempting to) draw 3-D in AutoCAD. Parametric software was a foreign concept to me but looking back, I can't believe I ever used to draw in 3-D in AutoCAD. How cumbersome that was! Can't believe it's been 25 years. Jaymes Kyle
Hello everyone, I got started in 2003 when I worked at Borg Warner. I went through the actual courses at local community college in 2008-2010 and got CSWA/CSWP. Then in 2018 started plugging my way through the CSWP specialty exams. Appreciate the support, i am enjoying the learning process because there is so much to the program and for so many uses. i mainly use it for basic sheet metal weldments though.
