Multiple possible descriptions in drawing BOM. Same part file.

I have a purchased part. It can be ordered in multiple materials and with multiple voltages. No dimensional difference between the parts.

Each combination of material and voltage has a unique vendor part number. Lots of combinations.

Is configurations the only option to be able to populate the drawing BOM with the correct vendor part number? ... even though the part geometry doesn't change?

Other than manually overriding the information in the BOM cells, yes, I believe configurations are your only option.
